Carolyn has always been drawn to some sort of hand-work. As a child, sewing clothes and “quilts” for her dolls created a kind of dream world for her.
Her love of needle arts, helps to create teddy bears that continue that dream in which others are invited to take part. Inspiration comes from life itself. Holidays, seasons of the year, memories of the past, fabrics and trim, even a beautiful photograph or color provides a feeling from which to create. For more than 20 years, Carolyn has used the sewing and design techniques learned throughout her life to create unique bears and animals.
Being completely self-taught, Carolyn has the freedom to design original patterns and accessories. Using the finest quality mohair and traditional materials and techniques she works full time from her home in Colorado, USA. Warm Heart Bears are original, one-of-a-kind pieces, created by hand for the adult collector; they are NOT toys.
Today things made by hand are rare. They represent a love of craftsmanship, inspired by a tradition of artistry, handed down over generations. Every stitch, every detail represents a passion and a love to create something one of a kind. Carolyn adds small details to each original piece to give it a “unique” character.
I am so proud to be an URSA Award Winner for 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The 2017 third place winners were Flutterby and Apryl & Tynie. Flutterby was inspired by my experience with ovarian cancer, so of course she had to be a shade of teal. Butterflies are a symbol of hope and I am so thankful to be a cancer survivor.
Apryl & Tynie’s inspiration came from an event a lot of us witnessed this year; the birth of a new little giraffe in New York. Apryl needed a friend, and elephants always have a special place in our hearts. As this competition is judged by the collectors, being chosen as one of your favorites is the highest compliment one can receive. I am grateful for your support and encouragement. Thank you to my family for standing by me. Their love allows me to keep doing what I love. Huge thanks also goes to a small group of artists and friends that have encouraged me along the way.
There are so many talented artists who create wonderful bears and friends. Congratulations goes to all of you who have entered the URSA Competitions. You are all winners, as you had the courage to enter one of your creations! Please keep creating your special bears and friends, as your work continues to challenge and inspire me.
We are so blessed to have our Bears and animals published in several magazines.
